Urban environments can mean many things to many people, signifying anything from “home sweet home” to “metropolitan mayhem” (and countless shades in between). But one thing is certain: The way we experience the cities in which we live and work has everything to do with their unique histories, and the way in which events and decisions add up over decades and centuries to produce unmistakable urban identities. Any attempt to functionally or aesthetically alter metropolitan environments has the potential to either enhance or detract from their uniqueness – or even damage it for ages to come. At BPR, we take this responsibility seriously. Our commitment to preserving the past while opening windows to the future is well illustrated in projects such as the revitalization of the city of Bremen’s harbor, or the BPR master plan for the Braunschweig (Brunswick) Airport expansion. Everything we do revolves around the people who will ultimately use and/or enjoy the facilities and structures we create.
